Description:

FIXED TERM POST FOR 2 YEARS

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Scientist at the West Midlands Regional Genetics Laboratory. This post, funded by a recent project grant award from Fight for Sight, will support our world-renowned research into the development of diagnostic and prognostic tests for retinoblastoma. Testing uses next-generation sequencing of circulating tumour DNA from a variety of sample types including eye fluid and blood. The post holder will be responsible for day to day management of the project including sample extraction, processing and analysis.

This position will sit within our Research and Development Team and success of this project will require significant collaboration with technical, clinical and bioinformatic staff within the laboratory. The post holder will maintain a strong working relationship with the retinoblastoma clinical team at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and also collaborate with the retinoblastoma service at Barts Health NHS Trust.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with laboratory-based experience in genomic technologies. Applicants should ideally have a relevant PhD, although this is not essential. Experience in a diagnostic genetics laboratory, cell-free DNA analysis and/or next generation sequencing would be beneficial.

The successful candidate will be a team player that can also operate independently and is capable of working under pressure to tight deadlines. Appointment will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

Informal enquiries welcome, please contact Dr Amy Gerrish or Dr Stephanie Allen on 0121 335 8036.
