Did you know…?
New UK standards for Public Involvement in research are now available. This work is a final and complete set of standards for everyone doing health and social care research.
The standards can be used in a variety of ways and are a really useful tool that will help R&D teams assess their involvement practice and plans for improvement.

Bookings are now open for RDF20, the 2020 Annual NHS R&D Forum Conference.
RDF20 will take place in Newcastle from the 10-12 May and we expect over 500 delegates from across health and care research to attend. Please book early to ensure your place and take advantage of the early bird rate that ends on 31st January 2020.
The Sunday night workshop and networking buffet will take place in the Crowne Plaza Newcastle and the rest of the conference is being held at Sage Gateshead. This year we are giving delegates the option to choose their conference hotel during the booking process. Make sure you read the notes for each hotel and their location before you complete your booking.

Research but not as we know it: Managing novel methods in research symposium.

Following on from the success of our recent symposia we have planned a third event to focus on exploring how we can manage novel studies that have complex or novel designs like adaptive and umbrella trials. This symposium has been put together following the industrial strategy and life sciences sector deal 2.
Adaptive designs are likely to become more commonplace for both sites and sponsors and so we aim to look at how we can build our confidence as a community to ensure they are able to run well in the NHS.

Ongoing work on the use of Confidentiality Disclosure Agreements in commercial contract research was presented to the Four Nations Contracts Group this month and a plan has been developed to ensure completion in the New Year. We expect to update you about this exciting initiative in the coming weeks.

Forum Non-Commercial Sponsors Symposium
120 people attended the 2nd Non-commercial Sponsors Symposium. A mix of important hot topics, sharing practices on how we sponsor, and table talks to help us move sponsorship forward as a community. It was fantastic to have so many NHS, HEI and charity sponsor teams together for the day and this enabled lots of new connections to be made between colleagues.
All presentation slides are now available on our website and we have set up a new Forum LinkedIN non-commercial Sponsors community group to keep the conversations flowing.

This is a closed group just for individuals working in sponsor teams or R&D offices that are looking to act as sponsor. The purpose is to facilitate more conversations around sponsorship, to share experience and expertise, and to address challenges together. Does your organisation host NIHR awards?
If so, then the annual Researchfish submission window will open on Monday 3 February 2020 and close at 16:00hrs on Thursday 12 March 2020.
In the current economic climate it is vital that funders have the ability to demonstrate the impact that the research they fund makes, and the NIHR is no different in this space. The NIHR uses the information submitted to Researchfish on research outputs, outcomes and impacts to understand the impact of its research and monitor progress. These data also support the NIHR in its case for continued investment in applied health research, responding to requests for information, and the building of impact case studies.
If your organisation hosts NIHR awards then you need to:
- Ensure you organisational contact details are up to date in the NHS R&D Forum Directory as we use this as a means of communicating with you regarding the submission;
- Alert award holders to the submission window in early 2020;
- Encourage your researchers to begin entering information – an early start will reduce pressure closer to the deadline

New R&D staff are unaware of the NHS R&D Forum & Resources Exchange
Feedback received through the community survey and at recent symposia suggests R&D staff are unaware of the NHS R&D Forum including all the resources, help and opportunities that are available. This may be particularly true for staff members who are new in post or new to NHS R&D.
The Forum is not just for management and governance staff, it is the home for all individuals working in, with and for providers and commissioners of health and care at all levels and in all types of organisations across the UK. We are a diverse community and we believe that it is our strength to come together as an inclusive network. There are lots of ways to get involved to seek help or just to share with colleagues.
