ECMC Network call for Forum support
Date: 30 June 2021
The ECMC Network would value input from the R&D Forum at improving teenager and young adult (TYA) access to clinical trials. Although this is oncology-specific, we would really like to hear from a range of disease specialities to see if we can share any learnings. TYA patients often experience poorer outcomes and lower survival rates than other age groups and one reason for this is due to low participation in clinical trials. We want to try and address this by understanding the unique challenges and barriers patients experience and look at ways to address this. There is also national ambition to increase TYA recruitment as NHS England want to actively support children and young people to take part in clinical trials, so that participation among children remain high and among TYAs rises to 50% by 2025 (as stated in the NHS Long Term Plan). We want to work together to explore opportunities to improve patient’s access to innovative treatment in the UK. If you would like to share your insights, please complete this quick survey.
We will be hosting focused workshops in September/October to identify priority areas and key recommendations to improve TYA access to clinical trials. If you would like to attend any of these workshops, please complete this form to sign up. If you have any questions, please get in touch with caroline-may.huxley@cancer.org.uk
