150,000 people sign up to Be Part of Research

Date: 30 May 2023

Over 150,000 people have now signed up to a new health and care research ‘match-making’ service from Be Part of Research – which matches volunteers to suitable studies across the UK. The service identifies potential participants for studies based on the areas of interest they selected when signing up – as well as age, ethnic group, sex, location and condition.

The new service, delivered by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), in partnership with devolved nations, is the first UK-wide research registry for all health conditions. It greatly speeds up the recruitment for study teams – while making it easier than ever for people to access suitable health and care research opportunities across every part of the country.

It will also play a key role in the NHS Long Term Plan to increase the number of people registering to participate in health research to one million by 2023/24.

People can register their interest in taking part in health and care research on the Be Part of Research website or via the NHS App (England only). They can choose the health conditions they are interested in – from diabetes to cancer to back pain – or sign up as a healthy volunteer.
