Clinical Research Practitioners and the road to recognition
Date: 18 April 2019
The Clinical Research Practitioner Directory is an exciting new venture that aims to promote a strong professional identity for CRPs and provide assurance for patients.
Clinical Research Practitioners (CRPs) are crucial to delivering the clinical research that is transforming treatment in the NHS and the care we receive.
The Directory is a collaboration between the NIHR and the Academy for Healthcare Science. It’s a fast growing community and space for CRPs to be consulted and to contribute to an application seeking accredited registration for CRPs.
Deirdre Brooking, Clinical Research Practitioner at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, said:
“I think there is a big lack of awareness about our role and the skills required. It’s vitally important we are recognised for what we do and the CRP Directory is an important step on that journey.
“Accredited registration would not only help our professional identity, it would give us a credibility in clinic and give patients assurances when they enter into a clinical study.”
Janice Paterson, Workforce Intelligence Manager at the NIHR Clinical Research Network, said:
“CRPs bring a wealth of research knowledge and expertise to the delivery of safe, ethical and high quality clinical research care. Around a quarter of the workforce funded by the NIHR Clinical Research Network are working in CRP roles – their enthusiasm and expertise is essential to the future of clinical research.”
“The CRP Directory offers Clinical Research Practitioners the opportunity to play a big part in shaping their profession and securing accredited registration.”
