Edinburgh Dementia Prevention Brain Health Summer School 2023

Date: 24 January 2023

Dates: Monday 12th – Friday 16th June 2023

This year the course will focus on the latest evidence for dementia prevention and promoting good brain health. Delivered online, the course will consider both global and public health perspectives, including examples from clinical care, policy and research.

The Brain Health Summer School is a 5-day interactive online course, which will combine materials and activities to work through in your own time, alongside daily live sessions with course tutors and fellow attendees to explore each topic in more depth.

The course is designed principally for trainee and qualified clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals working in (or with an aim to work in) brain health and dementia services, as well as researchers, undergraduate and post-graduate students. Bookings from other persons interested in increasing their general knowledge of research in this area (for example public health workers) are also welcome.

An important aim of the course is to introduce participants to approaches outside their current discipline with a view to developing multi-disciplinary practice and research. The course will provide an overview on promoting brain health and the prevention of neurodegenerative disorders and an exploration of the evidence base underpinning these.

The teaching will include online pre-recorded lectures spread over the week, with learning content released in advance for completion before attending the live, interactive sessions on each day between 1200-1330 hrs. Full agenda to follow.

Participants completing this course will:

1.    Gain knowledge and understanding on brain health and dementia prevention.

2.    Integrate knowledge about risk factors, global and public health perspectives on dementia prevention.

Course Fee: £230
