Radiation Assurance: new Information

Date: 27 September 2018

Following the success of Phase 1 of Radiation Assurance, HRA are now ready to begin recruitment for further Medical Physics Expert (MPE) and Clinical Radiation Expert (CRE) reviewers in preparation for the launch of Phase 2 on Monday 12 November 2018.  During Phase 2 we will accept all cardiology, rheumatology and neurology studies, as well as continuing to accept all oncology studies taking place in the NHS.

HRA are looking for MPEs and CREs with expertise in one or more of the following areas

  • radiology
  • nuclear medicine
  • radiotherapy
  • oncology
  • cardiology
  • neurology
  • rheumatology
  • paediatrics with particular knowledge of any of the above specialisms

Recruitment began on Friday 14 September with a closing date of Friday 12 October at 4pm. Please refer to our advert for role descriptions and details on how to apply.

Information and guidance on Radiation Assurance can be found on the HRA website, including an overview on how to submit a study and information regarding payment. More detailed guidance for applicants about how to submit a study for review is available on the IRAS website.

A standardised fee of £500 per review, per reviewer (plus VAT) has been introduced in England, Northern Ireland and Wales to simplify funding applications and the payments process. As the standardised charging and payment processes are new this year, the HRA are seeking feedback via an online survey on the Payments Framework Guidance.

HRA are also seeking feedback through a second online survey about the Radiation Assurance service as a whole, including the review process.

Please do spend some time to complete these surveys if you have any feedback to give as it will help us to develop and improve our guidance and service.

If you have any questions about the Radiation Assurance service or the Payments Framework guidance, please contact the Radiation Assurance team at hra.radiationassurance@nhs.net.
