The Year of Birth Project

The Year of Birth project is in its third year of data collection. As of December 2023 it has been able to report on the ages of over 500,000  participants recruited to NIHR portfolio studies. The aim of the project was to assess the feasibility of developing and implementing a national data collection process and is the NIHR’s first attempt at collecting demographic data on participants nationally.

The data is available for the research community to view in our dashboard.  To access the dashboard you will need to register for an NIHR Open Data Platform login. Please direct any queries about the project or the data to the Senior Project Lead Shamaila Anwar (shamaila.anwar@nihr.ac.uk).
