This resource is aimed at staff who are working in health, care and community settings, organisations or providers, such as social care or the local authority, who would like to know more about how to support research. This resource can serve as an introduction to the standards involved in research such as how to manage your research records and collect good quality data.

This learning will cover:

  • The importance of research in health, care and community settings
  • Distinguish between different types of research in health, care and community settings1
  • Understand the core legal and regulatory frameworks underpinning research in health, care and community research in the UK
  • Describe the importance of research records and good quality data
  • Understand the requirements of safety reporting.

 Definition of regulated Health and Care Professional (HCP)

The adopted definition of regulated health and care professionals (HCP) are those regulated healthcare professionals, excluding doctors and dentists, who are currently registered with one of the national regulatory bodies, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health and Care Professions Council, General Dental Council, General Medical Council, General Optical Council, General Osteopathic Council, General Chiropractic Council, General Pharmaceutical Council, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland.
