Findings from the 2023/24 Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES)
Date: 24 October 2024
Every year, the Research Delivery Network asks thousands of research participants to share their experiences of taking part in research by taking part in the Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES).
2023/24 was a bumper year for PRES. In total 35,519 research participants completed the experience survey; the highest annual response to date and almost double the NIHR Research Delivery Network’s (RDN) annual ambition of 18,000. This is a sign that patient experience is very much considered when designing and delivering studies.
Key findings from the survey included:
- 91% of adults and 95% of young people strongly agreed or agreed their contribution to research studies was valued by researchers and study teams.
- 95% of adults and 94% of children and young people felt treated with kindness and respect during their studies.
- More than 90% of participants felt their voice was heard during the research experience.
- 93% of adults and 95% of children and young people agreed they were given clear information at the start of the research study.
Those surveyed praised the research teams for their kindness, friendliness and knowledge.
