Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2024/2025
Date: 24 October 2025
Each year, the Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES) gathers feedback from thousands of volunteers about their involvement in research. This feedback enables the NIHR Research Delivery Network to place participants’ experiences at the centre of research delivery, helping to improve accessibility and strengthen recruitment and retention.
We are proud to announce the annual PRES statistics for the Research Delivery Network (RDN) in 2024/25. This year marks the tenth anniversary of PRES, with 32,268 responses gathered, including 29,664 adults and 2,604 children and young people. Participants shared positive feedback about their research experience, particularly around receiving clear initial information, feeling respected by staff, and being made to feel valued.
Key findings from the survey included:
- 91% of adults and 87% of children and young people said they would be happy to take part in research again
- 96% of adults and 95% of children and young people felt they were treated with kindness, courtesy, and respect
- 94% of adults and 92% of children and young people felt well-informed at the start of a study
- Over 93% of adults and 92% of children and young people felt valued for their participation
