Trustee of the Month – Sean Scott

Date: 21 November 2025

Where were you born?
I was born in a small town In County Durham, England.

Where is home now?
Newcastle upon Tyne, ever since I was a student. Technically after such a long time I can call myself an honorary Geordie.

What was your first job?
My very first job was serving sandwiches in a care home at dinner time. I met some wonderful people during this time and they gave a lot of advice for the future over a cuppa and a haslet sarnie.

What is your favourite food
This varies, but at the moment, Koren style rice bowels are top of the league table.

What is your favourite film?
For many years it has been ‘The Color Purple’ (also an excellent book). But also, the 1986 Jim Henson film “The Labyrinth” is a good, fun watch.

What was the first album/single you ever bought?
I can’t remember the first CD album I bought, but the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was my first vinyl.

What are you most proud of personally or professionally?
Working across the R&D sector for both Health Care and HEIs has been a challenge, but incredibly rewarding. The collaborations and excellent group of colleagues I work with very well is absolutely a major achievement.

You are stranded on a desert island – what one item you would take with you (book, album, luxury item)
I guess this would have to be practical? Maybe a survival book. Otherwise I really don’t think I would survive very long.

What do you enjoy most about being a Trustee?
Being able to support and give back to the hard working community across the R&D sector is great. Being a part of this network and being able to be a voice is one of the best parts of the role.
