NIHR Update: RDN National Hospital Setting Lead, Dr Sandip Mitra praises innovative Yorkshire and Humber RDN event

Date: 18 March 2026

Over 100 clinical researchers attended an innovative event delivered by the Yorkshire and Humber RRDN. The event in Leeds on 20 January focussed on research in hospital settings in the Yorkshire and Humber Region.

Attendees heard keynote speeches from Dr Sandip Mitra, the RDN’s National Settings Lead for Hospitals and NIHR Life Sciences Director Maria Koufali, as well as the latest from specialties across the region. The event also presented how pharmaceutical companies regionally are meeting the 150-day industry study set up deadline, as well as covering the NIHR’s Associate Principal Investigator (PI) Scheme.

Upon seeing the agenda and being part of the successful event, Dr Sandip Mitra said:

“I was pleased to be the keynote speaker at the NIHR YD&H RN Strategic Meeting for Hospital Settings. The event was a great example of sharing, collaboration and learning across this large region, with hospitals and primary care sharing brilliant examples of cross organisational working and improved processes for speedy study set-up. Inspired by this day, I aim to feedback this approach nationally.”

Reflecting on the successful hospitals event, Yorkshire and Humber RRDN Director, Amber O’Malley said:

“This is the second meeting in a series of three ‘clinical settings events’ delivered in the Yorkshire and Humber region. The first was hosted for Primary Care in October 2025, and we are now planning our Wider Care and Community Settings event on the 26 March.

“Both events have been a fantastic example of the importance of face to face meetings and protected time to galvanise collaboration, create synergies and allow time to reflect across all areas of our health and care research activities. This to me is the true benefit and role of our space as a ‘Network’, and we all look forward to realising the impact of these activities over the coming year.”
